Summary The Application Configuration Manager is responsible for supporting the software development organization via tools and processes that drive change management, version control, build management, and release management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and document configuration management procedures across multiple teams and projects.
  • Drive architectural improvements in the product build and deployment processes to increase reliability and efficiency.
  • Own the Team Foundation Server configuration from end-to-end, including process templates, work item workflow, area/iteration paths, and project portals.
  • Monitor and provide managerial oversight for the definition and maintenance of customer specific application configurations for highly configurable software applications.
  • Create/manage the processes for creating, updating, maintaining, and deploying customer specific configurations for multiple internal and customer application environments.
  • Coordinate with other parties responsible for performing activities related to customer specific application configurations to ensure adherence with established processes.
  • Communicate and coordinate configuration management processes across product management, development, QA, and support.
  • Create and maintain automated build processes and perform deployments
  • Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot source control repositories.
  • Verify and document software build content.
  • Define, implement, and document software deployment strategies and installation procedures.
  • Create setup/install packages for several applications.
  • Manage the configuration, integration, and validation of development, QA, and build servers.
  • Promote code to multiple environments.
  • Execute and verify full software system builds.
  • Maintain software build environments, including branching and merging of source code
  • Write clear, concise, factual and detailed documentation such as system build descriptions, Configuration Manual excerpts and software installation instructions.
  • Define, collect, and publish team and organizational quality metrics and reports.

 Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of software systems, object oriented principles and browser based applications is required.
  • Team Foundation Server expertise, building system module executables in a multi-user, multi-system environment
  • Strong background in SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and industry best practices.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to generate Configuration Management Plans.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership of the product.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server, Windows Server, and IIS.
  • Familiarity with environments including networking, operating systems and databases.
  • Ability to adapt to moving requirements and shifting priorities.
  • Commitment to accomplishing goals within the defined timelines and meet project schedule deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment and share technical capabilities within the organization
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, in addition to a strong work ethic.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional Configuration Management experience.
  • Experience with Team Foundation Server, source control, change control, version control, build management and deployment processes required.
  • Experience with Change, Release, and SLA Management processes and tools required.
  • Experience with installation development tools is preferred.
